CPT Silent Auction Donation
From September 10-13 133 cities around the world held events to raise money for local charities. It’s called Twestival Local and it was started about a year ago by some Twitter users in London. Christian Publishing Tips was pleased to support the Greenville Twestival by donating autographed Christian books by bestselling authors for the silent auction. All of the money raised by the Greenville Twestival supported the Miracle Hill Boys’ Shelter, a Christian organization that cares for abused and neglected boys. Christian Publishing Tips is thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this great event that supported a wonderful cause.

Your Right Job Right Now By Brian Golter
When Brian Golter wrote his book Your Right Job Right Now, he had no idea how needed and timely it would be. His book, released this month by Ambassador International, is a survival guide for the new job market. It’s not only a great read for those on the job hunt, but also for those feeling like they’re not reaching the full potential God has in mind for them with their current job. Today Brian joins us to explain why he wrote the book, and how his mission changed as the economy changed.
**Keep reading for your chance to WIN Brian’s new book!**
When I wrote this book in 2008, I was writing to those rare individuals who wish to see their careers as an opportunity to transform themselves. To overcome their deep-rooted fears and inadequacies, and become the man or woman they had always dreamed of being. It was a book about turning fear into courage, mistrust into trust and inadequacy into confidence.
But as the saying goes, “that was then and this is now”. Since the time I completed this manuscript, we have entered into one of the most difficult job markets in modern history. This book is no longer for rare individuals. It has become a survival guide for the new job market. Understanding how to bring your absolute best to the job market is no longer a luxury. It has become a necessity.
The old rules simply no longer apply. If you’re looking for a job, it’s no longer enough to get on the computer, send out your resume and expect to get a job. The days of just “showing up” to the interview and getting an attractive offer are over.
Quite simply, if you are experiencing a lack of motivation, enthusiasm or confidence, you are not going to find the job you want. No, faking won’t help you either. In this market, employers have their choice of hundreds of candidates. Of course, they will eliminate people on the traditional criteria: by experience, skills and salary. But what most job seekers don’t realize is just how large a role expectations, confidence, risk-taking and attitude play in getting the job they want. They play a larger role than education and experience. This has always been true. Today’s serious candidates have to pay attention to those deep places in themselves: those places that determine how other people experience them. The days of covering up the real you and still getting what you want are slowly but surely coming to an end.
For those of you willing to do the work of overcoming your fears and inadequacies, there is a silver lining. And what a wonderful silver lining it is! It’s truly a new day in which you can reach for what you know is true and rewarding. A day in which you can no longer get away with, or be rewarded for, the very things you don’t like about yourself. A day when you can become the man or woman God designed you to be.
For those of you who refuse to take up this challenge, it could just be the death sentence of your career. It’s time to get real and dig deep. To use the adversity you are experiencing to become so honest with yourself, so humble, that you will get the right job, right now.

The Grand Prize Winner
They’ll always be the first. The 66 authors chosen to receive the Christian Choice Book Awards will always be the first to receive this award since it’s in its inaugural year. Of the 407 entrants, there were 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners in each of the 22 categories, including the grand prize winners. Xulon released this statement, “as the first contest of its kind in the Christian publishing arena, the Christian Choice Book Awards represents a unique opportunity for self-published Christian authors to make their voice heard,” stated Xulon Press, the publishing arm of Salem Communications, which launched the contest. The contest was open to all self-published Christian authors who released books in 2007-2008. Every winner received prize money and certificates with approximately $1500 going to the grand prize winners:
Grand Prize: Christopher H. K. Persaud-Evolution
1st Runner-Up: Waneta Dawn-Behind the Hedge
2nd Runner-Up: Rick Brown-Out of the Forest
Xulon says that of the 66 winners, only four were authors not published or marketed through Xulon Press. Click here to see a full list of the winners.

Entering yourself for a book award can seem like trying to buy popularity or tooting your own horn. But winning is oh so nice, isn’t it? But is it worth forking over the entry fee and taking the time to fill out the application? There’s no doubt that winning an award is an honor that brings prestige, credibility and recognition along with it.
In this article about winning an IPPY Award from the Independent Publisher, past winners explain the benefits that come with the award. “The Independent Publisher Book Award is an honor, absolutely!” says Mark Hemry of Palm Drive Publishing in San Francisco. “The publicity sold out the hardcover version of What They Did to the Kid.” Author Sadie Allison has this to say about her 2002 win, “having that IPPY sticker on the book opens doors, both with buyers and with the media,” she says. “It was a struggle at first, as a self-publisher pitching a book on a difficult, taboo topic. But I’m a warrior, and I’ve carved out a niche that people seem to respond to.”
So bottom line, an award may not do all of the work for you, but it can give you credibility that is hard to come by in the competitive world of publishing. The deadline for entries for the 2009 IPPY awards is March 21, 2009. Feel free to share other book awards open to authors, including Christian authors.
